The Champions Within: Portraits of a Boxing Community (2024)

Celebrating the intersections between photography and boxing, “The Champions Within: Portraits of a Boxing Community” sheds light on the resilience, camaraderie and diversity within Brixton’s fast-growing boxing scene. Through candid interviews by journalist Jordan King and Champs Within founder Sammy McKay, and captivating photography produced by five portrait and sports photographers over the past six months, the exhibition showcases inspirational stories of the esteemed local boxing organization Champs Within.

Chelsea’s new work for “The Champions Within: Portraits of a Boxing Community” delves into the multifaceted identities of local boxers through a dual-portrait approach. Each individual is depicted both in their boxing gear, embodying their champion fighter persona, and in their personal environment, providing a glimpse into the diverse backgrounds nurtured within the community boxing scene.
